A Closer Walk | DAY 15: Wealth

Wisdom is better when it’s paired with money, especially if you get both while you’re still living. Double protection: wisdom and wealth! Plus this bonus: Wisdom energizes its owner.

Consider this: Martin Luther was keenly aware that material possessions often become impurities that blur the perceptions of the possessors. He wrote: “Riches are the least worthy gifts which God can give to man. What are they to God’s Word, to bodily gifts, such as beauty and health, or to the gifts of the mind, such as understanding, skill, and wisdom! Yet men toil for them [riches] day and night and take no rest.”

To become truly rich then, we must fill our lives with God’s Word. Choose a time and place to meet God each day. Spend time in God’s Word. Let Him speak to you through it. Find ways to apply it as you go through the day.

Material resources can be either a blessing or a curse, depending on the wisdom you have in utilizing them. Differing perspectives on finances is one of the major pitfalls for married couples. Do not let money (or the lack of it!) divide you. Seek God’s guidance when determining how to budget your income. Go to a Christian financial advisor if you are both weak in this area, then seek mutual understanding of God’s financial principles through the study of His Word and communication with God through prayer.

Discuss: It has been said: You can make yourself rich by having few wants! Do you agree or disagree? Why?

Pause here and remember that God’s Word is unlike any other words. Through God’s Word, King David’s son, King Solomon, was able to see wealth through the lens of wisdom. Seek knowledge and understanding from God’s Word about how to be a good steward of your money.

The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago.
The second best time is today.
