Consider this: One is a lonely number. In the midst of life’s storms, when darkness seems to hide the very face of God, it is good not to be alone. Even though you may not actually see God or feel his presence, rest assured. He is always there. How do you typically approach stormy challenges in your family—with fear because you feel isolated, or with hope? Today’s families deal with pressures that were unknown fifty years ago, but God has equipped us with His spiritual armor so we can face the darkness with full confidence that God is beside us. Satan wants to destroy your family and works hard to isolate you when you need help. God, on the other hand, wants to nurture and strengthen you and your spouse as you go your tough times. Remember, you are as close to God as you choose to be. God never moves—we do. He is always just a prayer or a thought away. Most Christian couples know the importance of praying together—but they often do not actually take time to pray. It’s easy to drift away from what matters most and slowly get off course. Commit to pray for and with each other as well as read and study Scripture together. This defeats Satan’s plan, and moves you out of loneliness into a more abundant and fulfilling life together. Discuss: Share a time when loneliness nearly overwhelmed you. What happened, or what did you do to overcome the darkness? Pause here and remember that staying on course and living by faith means submitting to God’s power as He transforms us. Challenges or conflicts don’t have to undermine the marriage if we invite God to handle those challenges with us. That can make a difference between a successful marriage and a distressed marriage. Ask God to help you surrender to His will as you walk by faith, not by sight.God is perfect love and perfect wisdom. We do not pray in
order to change his will, but to bring our wills into harmony with his.
