Consider this: Isaac looked up to his father, Abraham,
and asked, “Where’s the lamb?” To which Abraham replied, “God
will provide.” Jenny looked up from balancing the checkbook and exclaimed
to her husband, “I don’t know how we will make it this month. Our
money is less than our needs.” To which her husband, Bill, replied, “God
will provide.” Even though millenniums separate the above illustrations,
the truth is steadfast and sure. We live by faith. It is easy to praise God when
things are going well in your marriage, but circumstances have a way of changing
your emotional outlook, don’t they? Your relationship with God can be much
like your relationship with your spouse—you won't always feel close to
Him. There may be times when it feels like God has abandoned or forgotten you.
Regardless of how we are feeling at any particular moment, we are to place our
trust in Him. Troubling circumstances cannot change the character of God, and
He is omnipresent, so do not lose hope. He is always ready to help you. Yield
to Him when you and your spouse have had a difference of opinion, you have spoken
unkind words, or even if you walked out! Talk things over with God, then find
your spouse and seek forgiveness. Ask God for a fresh start together—in
His presence.
Discuss: Which of the following areas of your life most reveal
your need to have your emotions under the lordship of Jesus Christ? Why do you
believe this is so?

Pause here and reflect: “God, my shepherd! I don’t
need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools
to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the
right direction” (Psalm 23:1-3 MSG).
It isn’t your problems that are bothering you. It
is the way you are looking at them.
