Consider this: As the father and his three-year-old reached the intersection to walk across the street, the young boy reached his hand in the air without ever looking up. He knew, as always, that his father’s hand was there waiting for him. Such should be the expectation of every child of God—living in constant expectation that when needs arise, our Heavenly Father is already there, waiting to take care of our needs. A Christian marriage is not spared the uncertainties of life. Believers endure setbacks and losses the same as everyone else does. But, as believers, you have something that sets you apart: you belong to a faithful God, one that has His hand ready for you to hold on to. Genuine faith is complete trust—an expectation or strong conviction that something will work out for the better—even when we cannot see the end point—or even beyond the next step. Faith never comes to us by logic or reason. We grow in faith by hearing, believing, trusting, and acting on the Word of God. The Psalms are a great place to turn because of their sincere expressions of troubling ailments and fears of dangerous enemies. Bible figures such as Abraham, Moses, David, Peter, and Paul reveal to us their conflict-filled lives. Yet, in the end, they demonstrate confidence in God and His Word. Like the Apostle Paul, we should have the confidence that nothing can separate us from the love of God expressed through His Son. Discuss: What motivates you and your spouse to do what you both do? What are your most common positive and negative emotional reactions? How do these reactions affect the progress of your faith journey? Pause here and remember that God wants you to rely on Him and to understand that He is not limited by your doubts. Give your circumstances to God. Ask Him to fill your heart with faith today so you will be an overcomer. Pray also for God to supply you and your spouse with the grace and courage needed to be examples of His faithfulness. Relying on God has to begin all over again every day
